The city engineering department released its list for the “2025 paving program” on Friday.
The list did not include a timeline for work, or details on whether a street will receive pothole patching, milling, and/or paving. Neither Mayor John Lombardi III nor John Donnelly, city engineer, responded to requests for comment on which streets would receive milling, and when residents could expect to see work.
Aldermen have been concerned about the late start to highway work this year. The Town of Lockport released its paving list on its website two weeks ago.
Davison Road, from East Avenue to the Davison Road Inn, is included on the list. On April 24, a resolution for Highway Rehabilitation Corporation to repair Davison Road using hot in-place mill recycling was approved by the city council. Mullane had introduced the resolution and Margaret Lupo, 5th Ward Alderman was vocal in her support since Davison Road has been a source of complaints in her district.
“This is a good trial of whether this will hold up on our streets,” Lupo said of Highway Rehabilitation’s process. “Davison Road is a busy street. We’re just waiting now to get an estimate.”
Streets that Lombardi previously said were priorities, including Genesee Street from Transit to Pine, Pound Street from East Avenue to Walnut, and Locust Street from Sergeant to Dorchester made the list.
However, Market Street, which was a priority for John Craig, 1st Ward alderman, was absent from the list. Craig said a Market Street resurfacing project was especially important with canal bicentennial celebrations beginning later this month.
Seeing Market Street absent from the list Friday, Kathryn Fogle, 4th Ward alderman and council president, said, “That really needs to be done.”
Kevin Kirchberger, alderman at large, said the previous paving project on Market Street stopped at the Matt Murphy Bridge because that was where the touring route ended. The city has separate funds for touring routes.
