BEVERLY — Firefighters made quick work of a blaze at 1 Wentworth Drive after neighbors notified the Fire Department at 8:21 p.m. Sunday.
Engine 5, the first to arrive at the single-alarm fire, discovered a fire burning on the rear exterior wall of the two-and-a-half story contemporary colonial house.
The neighbors who spotted the fire had gone to warn the four residents, but they were not home. The family’s two dogs, however, were inside and were brought to safety.
Under the command of Capt. Arthur Fitzpatrick, Engines 1, 2, 3 and followed close behind Engine 5 and attacked what was described as a “small” blaze.
Firefighters were able to access the rear of the house without issue and quickly brought their hoses to bear on the blaze, according to Capt. Jake Kreyling, who was second in command.
Because the fire had started on an outside wall and had not penetrated into the interior, firefighters were able to extinguish it within five minutes.
Little damage was done to the interior, Kreyling said, and the told firefighters they planned to remain there.
As of mid-afternoon Monday, the investigators’ report was incomplete, but no indication of anything suspicious was reported at the time.
Providing coverage for Beverly were engines from Danvers, Salem, Wenham and Hamilton.
