Yoga says that we are spiritual beings who are having physical, emotional and mental experiences.
When we greet someone, we say Namaste to him or her. Namaste means folding both hands and placing them in front of your chest. Through saying Namaste to you, I realize that the divine spark that lies within my chest, providing me life, is the same divine spark which lies in your chest, providing you life.
We are related as siblings because we are brothers and sisters. We are created and nurtured by the same spark of life. Given the fact that we have different bodies, with unique hearts and wonderful minds, we adjudge ourselves to be different beings. Yoga says that though our bodies undergo different kind of sensations, our hearts feel unique emotions and our minds think of diverse thoughts, we are created by the same artist with the same brush in various colors.
That creator puts the same spiritual spark in each of us, though we possess a unique body, heart and mind. Although we look unique, feel differently and think our thoughts variously, we are created by the same spark. According to yoga, this spark is spiritual. Thus, we are all spiritual beings who are having different physical, emotional and mental experiences. Yoga provides its eight-fold path to tap and realize our spirituality. One of the eight steps of Yoga is Pranayama, which is a way to systematically control our breathing to express this divine spark that lies embedded inside each of us.
The exercise below is a suggestion only. If done on a regular basis, it might help.
Sit in an easy posture on a mat or in a chair. Keep you back, neck and head straight up. Close your eyes. Breathe in and out for two minutes. Observe the flow of breathing. It will feel good. Now when you breathe in, think about love. When you breathe out, think about compassion. If other ideas come through your mind, recognize them and then go back to breathing in love and breathing out compassion. Do this exercise for five minutes and then stop. Enjoy the relaxed feeling. This exercise can also be done in bed before you fall asleep or when you get up in the morning.
