TRAVERSE CITY — The City of Traverse City and Charter Township of Garfield Recreational Authority are seeking applications from volunteers who are interested in serving on a Citizen Advisory Committee for Hickory Meadows and Hickory Forest.
The Advisory Committee was first appointed in 2005 shortly after the 112-acre Hickory Meadows property was acquired by the Rec Authority for preservation as public parkland.
The Authority has now opened another 75 acres nearby for public preservation and use that is known as Hickory Forest.
Advisory Committee appointees provide input on and assistance with management plans for both sites.
The committee generally meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the offices of the Grand Traverse Conservation District, 1450 Cass Road, in Traverse City.
All committee members must be residents of either Garfield Township or the City of Traverse City. Applicants must not be in default to either the city or the township.
Appointments are typically for two years and expire June 30, although appointments may be staggered at the discretion of the Rec Authority Board. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are kept on file for one year.
Citizen Advisory Committee application materials can be obtained on the Rec Authority’s web page at www.recauthority.org or through the executive director, 231-715-1380 or mcowall@recauthority.org.
Submitted applications that are current and complete by April 30 will be considered for appointments that begin July 1.
