FLINTSTONE — Firefighters responding to a truck fire Friday were surprised to find the vehicle involved was a retired fire truck.
“It was a cab-over Mac truck. It started in the engine and burnt the cab,” a Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson said.
The Allegany County Joint Communications Center received a call at approximately 11:30 p.m. reporting a Mac truck on fire in the 21000 block of Monte Notte Terrace, according to a Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
Monte Notte Terrace is located off Town Creek Road, between Flintstone and Oldtown.
“The owner said he was out riding around in (the truck) and came back and backed in,” the fire department spokesperson said, “… and started seeing smoke.”
The owner, a fire truck enthusiast, had two other trucks parked nearby that were not damaged.
The damaged engine originally belonged to the American Fire Company No. 1 of Lansford, Pennsylvania, located in Carbon County in the Northeastern part of the state.
Fire department units were on the scene for approximately one hour controlling the fire, according to the spokesperson, who attributed the cause to a mechanical malfunction.
