Illinois State Police are reporting multiple slide-offs and crashes this morning on the interstates and roads ways in east-central Illinois as a winter storm moves through the area.
ISP reported a crash was blocking the lanes of I-74 West at Milepost 185 around 8:30 a.m. Police ask motorists to seek an alternate route as only the shoulder is available at the location.
The bulk of the traffic problems were reported in Champaign County but the storm was moving into Vermilion and surrounding counties to the east as well. Police ask motorists to slow down and drive cautiously in the snow. Try to limit travel plans if possible. Leave yourself extra time to get to your destination.
The Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency and National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory until 06 p.m. today.
Snow is expected to accumulate to between 2 to 4 inches.
The advisory affects portions of central and east-central Illinois.
Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact commutes throughout the day.
Police advise motorists to use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for Illinois can be obtained on the Internet at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
