A Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office offense report states an East Lane woman is the victim of an online marketplace fraud that has resulted in the loss of $1,932, the selling price for a ring listed for sale.
The incident was reported to Sheriff’s Deputy Devyne Templeton Sept. 28 by the 65-year-old victim.
The victim told the deputy she had posted a diamond ring on Facebook Marketplace for sale and was contacted online by a man.
The contact offered to purchase the ring for $1,932 with a check, which the victim agreed. The local woman then shipped the ring to a Bloomington, IL, addresse and deposited the check into a personal bank account on Sept. 26.
The bank then contacted the victim, advising the check was bogus.
Investigation is continuing.
