The Red Cross is assisting two people and several pets following a Thursday afternoon fire at a home on Nash Road in Wheatfield.
The fire was reported about 1:20 p.m. Thursday at 6935 Nash Road. Sheriff’s deputies responded and confirmed smoke was coming from the roof of the home.
The two residents and several pets were evacuated and members of the Adams Volunteer Fire Co. extinguished the fire. Adams was assisted by members of the St. Johnsburg, Bergholz and Shawnee volunteer fire companies. Additionally, the city of North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Fire Departments also provided aid in the efforts.
No injuries were reported. The residence suffered heavy fire and smoke damage with losses estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $40,000 to the contents.
An investigation into the cause of the fire by the Niagara County Fire Investigation Unit is underway.
