GIRLS HOCKEY
Peabody 1, Algonquin 0: Freshman Sydney Zizza broke a stalemate with only 42 seconds left in regulation to lift Peabody (12-2-1) by the No. 4 ranked club in D2. Seniors Chloe Gromko and Ava Buckley assisted on the tally and Alyse Mutti had a super game in net with 30 saves to post her sixth shutout of the season.
Beverly 4, Melrose 3 (OT): Junior captain Morgan Linskey made an end-to-end rush in overtime to sent the Panthers (6-10) to a dramatic home win. Sophomore Asuka Keough made an end-to-end rush of her own for the game-tying goal with under 4:00 to play for the second of her two tallies. Meredith Johnson also netted her 20th of the season for Beverly while assists were earned by Meg Ryan and freshman defenseman Phoebe Allen.
Gloucester 2, Marblehead 1 (OT): Goalie Scarlet Lee stood on her head against her hometown with 42 saves but the Fishermen won it on a 2-on-1 shorthanded break finished by Halia Taylor four minutes into overtime. Layla Dulac had the second period game-tying goal for Marblehead (3-12) with assists from Emma Johnson and Vera Conley.
Tilton 4, Pingree 2: The Highlanders (7-13) grabbed an early lead but the Rams rallied to take a 3-2 edge and then added an empty netter in a hard fought battle. Freshman Murphy Holden had a solid game in net while Sarah DiCenso and Julia Ghergerovich scored for Pingree with assists from Aby Amigo and Harley White.
Newburyport 3, Masconomet 2: Captains Maddie Kenny and Charlotte Leiss scored for the Chieftains (5-11) while freshman Gabby Chiulli had another solid showing in between the pipes with 24 saves. Madie Dupuis, Allie Lacava and Ella Bevilacqua had assists.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Wakefield 98, Salem 89 (3 OT): Elian Rodriguez recorded an incredible 50 points, the second most in a game in Salem boys history behind only Scoonie Penn, and the Witches ran out of gas down the stretch in a marathon playing on back-to-back nights. Matt Kenney, Nate Lane and Canei McLeod also scored 11 each for the Witches (12-2) in the instant classic on the road.
Marblehead 64, Peabody 48: The Magicians evened their record at 7-7 while the Tanners (8-10, 7-10 for tournament purposes) will need to win three straight to qualify. Anuedy Medrano led Peabody with 15 points while Jariel Tolentino had 11 and Thad Broughton netted ten.
BOYS HOCKEY
Pingree 6, BB&N 3: Kellan Danaher and Christian Marsh both had two goals while Joe Gaffney and Danny Patch also scored, allowing the Highlanders (11-8-1) to capture their fourth consecutive victory. Two assists were credited to Mikey Covelluzzi, Graham Luskin and Anthony Bonacorso, while Caleb Guthrie and Nick Moulison both contributed single helpers.
Marblehead 3, Winthrop 1: Third liner Drew DePhillips buried the game-winner in the third period from linemate E.J. Wyman as the Headers (13-2-1 overall) dealt the visiting Vikings their first Northeastern Conference loss of the season and tied them for first place. Captain Kyle Hart added a shorthanded goal to give the winners some breathing room. London McDonald added a goal and an assist, Noah Feingold and James Mackenzie had solo assists, and captain Leo Burdge stopped 26-of-27 shots in the important win.
Bedford 5, Danvers 1: Trailing by just one entering the final period, the Falcons (4-9-3) were victimized by three third period tallies by the host Bucs. Alternate captain Seamus Cary had an unassisted first period snipe for Danvers, with goalie Cody Standring stopping 27 shots.
WRESTLING
Pentucket 42, Danvers 29: The Falcons earned pins by Dylan Lightbody, JJ Rand and Micheal Burke while Logan Jacques picked a tech fall. Drew McMahon and Dylan Kinney also grabbed decision victories.
BOYS TRACK
Eagles win Catholic Conference: For the seventh straight year, St. John’s Prep won the Catholic Conference indoor meet title with 147 points. Andrew Bertucci was named league Field Event Athlete of the Year while winning individual CC titles were senior Caden Rogovich (600, 1:26.54), senior Lincoln Massaro (hurdles, 7.75), senior Anthony Ragosa (shot put, 52-2) and the 4×400 relay of Rogovich, JP Sullivan, Noah Kabel and Doug Clement.
H-W’s Rich MVP: Hamilton-Wenham captain Ben Rich won the mile (4:25) and the 2-mile (9:49) at the Cape Ann League Open and also anchored the Generals’ championship 4×800 relay to lead the team to a third place overall finish and was named CAL Athlete of the Meet. Cole Regan won the CAL title in the 1000 (2:45) and was third in the mile (4:42), Clark Glidden was third in the 1000 (2:47), Seth Glidden was fifth in the 1000 (2:48) and Ryan Regan placed sixth in the 2-mile (10:51).

Ipswich 70, Rockport 53: Rex Satter made his return from injury and dropped in 20 points to help the Tigers (4-12) break back into the win column. Trevor Manning scored 16 and had a hot start to help Ipswich grab an early lead while James Norris and Vin Winter scored 15 apiece.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lynnfield 35, Essex Tech 28: Senior Thais Dos Santos had a tremendous outing with 19 points and eight rebounds but the Hawks dipped to 5-12 overall. Avery Barteaux added four points and Nicole Mwaura had six steals while scoring three.
GIRLS TRACK
Generals seventh: Cape Ann League regular season MVP Georgia Wilson won the CAP Open title in the long jump (16-8) while also placing second in the hurdles (8.53) and third in the dash (7.57). H-W was seventh in the final team standings from the championship meet.
FENCING
St. John’s wins pair: The Eagles (14-2) fell to the defending state champs from BB&N, 17-10, while also beating Commonwealth, 14-13. The foils of Kyle Nichols, Ben Shore, James Solopoulos, Chris Sorrenti, and Leo Petino and a 7-2 performance in the while Sabres Ethan Ho, Phil Maestranzi, Finn DeBiase, Francesco Fulciniti, and Nick Sorrenti went 3-and-6. The epees, Manu Challagulla, Gabe Samra, Evan Foley, Lucas Zepf, and Max Byron, provided a 4-and-5 lift.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Endicott 59, UNE 57 (OT): Cora Nadeau had a 18 points and five rebounds and the Gulls (15-5) won the extra session 9-7 to pick up the win. Emma Shinney scored 13 points with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals and Sarah Dempsey scored 11 to move within a bucket of Endicott’s all-time program scoring record.
Salem State 73, Lesley 55: All five starters scored in double figures as the Vikings climbed over .500 at 11-10. Jaylen Nieves had a team-leading 14 points while Abuk Teng had 13, Kylie Gates scored a dozen with seven assists and Ernidia Goncalves grabbed 13 rebounds along with scoring 12.
Suffolk 88, Gordon 74: Woynitu Ciccarello made six three pointer and ended up with 24 points while Ami Rivera scored 23 but the Scots fell to 7-13 in splitting the season set against the Rams.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Endicott 92, UNE 62: Another double-double by Marcus Montagino, this one with 21 points and 13 rebounds, helped the Gulls cruise. A.J. Forte of Peabody added 13 points in the win and Bishop Fenwick product Max Grenert scored a dozen.
Suffolk 74, Gordon 56: Bernie McGuinness had 18 points but the Fighting Scots (8-12) had a tough night otherwise in terms of the offense.
