SOFTBALL
Marblehead 2, Danvers 0 (9 innings): Tessa Francis stroked an RBI double in the top of the ninth to put Marblehead (7-0) ahead and then stranded the tying runs on base to finish off a complete game with 14 strikeouts in a thriller at Great Oak School. Skylar Coakley was phenomenal in the circle for Danvers (4-4), striking 12 over all nine innings and hitting a double in the ninth to giver her team a shot to come back.
Hailey Schmitt and Isabel Mortensen both had two hits for Marblehead. Danvers’ singles came from Kyla Moroney, Lila Flynn and Briley Keezer.
Masconomet 12, Boston Latin 0: Charlotte Leiss (3-for-4) and Logan Schapp (2-for-4) each had three RBI and the Chieftains (4-5) scored seven in the sixth to bust open the game and win their third straight. Sydnee Vocino struck out six and scattered four hits while scoring twice. Offensively, Emma McCormack and Angie Vecchio each doubled and scored twice and Sabrina Cafarelli added a triple.
BASEBALL
Peabody 4, Beverly 2: Max Silvia spun a 5-hitter with nine strikeouts to help the Tanners (5-2) get by the Panthers on the road. Senior captains Jariel Tolentino (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Joey Smith (2-for-3) helped spark the offense and junior Jake Crocker went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Marblehead 12, Danvers 3: Stefan Shepard hit two doubles and the Magicians (5-3) scored six times in the first two innings to snap Danvers’ four-game win streak. Cam Quigley and Ethan Wyman added two RBI each for Marblehead and Ian McComish threw five strong to earn his first win of the year with Kiernan Moss going two solid in relief. Danvers (4-3) got two hits and an RBI from Jacob Walters and saw Jack Curcuru score twice and steal a base.
Salem 4, Swampscott 0: Righty Jordan O’Malley was at his best, striking out ten with one walk in a complete game shutout as the Witches won their third straight to even their record at 4-4. Doubles by Jack Tsoutsouras (RBI), Kevin Soto (RBI) and Shea Christel sparked the offense, as did two hits by Yan Tejada Ruiz. Chase Groothuis had two of just four hits by the Big Blue, who fell to 5-4.
Masconomet 8, Lawrence 7: Trailing by six runs late, the Chieftains scored four in the sixth and three in the seventh to walk-off victorious. Liam Ginley hit a 2-run double to tie it and Chase Lepore’s RBI single plated the winning run while Aidan Brown earned his first win with 2 2/3 scoreless relief work. Cal Weidman scored twice for Masco, Drew Gustafson had two RBI and catcher Drew Nelson did as well.
Bishop Fenwick 11, Malden Catholic 1: Anthony Herbert struck out nine in a complete game and also went 2-for-2 with two RBI to power the Crusaders (2-6). Chris D’Angelo doubled, scored twice and had two RBI for Fenwick while Tyler Santos and Henry Vanfassen also had two RBI and Odin Garon and Colin Churches both scored two runs.
Pingree 11, Concord Academy 7: Jimmy Keck drove in four runs on two hits and Pingree (4-3) scored 11 unanswered after falling behind 7-0. Ethan Rich struck out seven in 3 2/3 relief innings and Jonah Richardson and Jack Spear threw the last two without allowing a run. Ty Boviard had two RBI while Dan Ferris, Cam Anderson, Brady Daniels and Rich also drove in runs.
Needham 7, St. John’s Prep 6 (8 innings): The Eagles (3-4) weren’t able to hold an early 6-1 lead in an extra innings road loss. Ty Spear hit a triple and collected three RBI to lead the St. John’s offense, which had seven hits from seven different players including Dylan Gaudet, Will Shaheen, Nic Lembo and James Willett.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 10, Andover 5: Goaltender Austin Kitces made eight saves and also scored a pivotal goal (the first of his career) in the second quarter to help the Eagles (9-0) double up the Warriors. Beckett Lee led a balanced attack with two goals, Luke Kelly had a goal and two assists and brothers Ryan and Cam McCarthy added a goal and an assist each. Bo Minogue, Kevin Correa, Charlie Angell and Josh Barton also scored and Mac Crawford added one assist. Will Crawford won 9-of-15 draws and backup keeper Sam Pruell also made three saves.
Peabody 9, Beverly 8 (OT): After a spectacular save by Aidan Haight (20 saves), the Tanners transitioned the ball upfield and got the game-winning tally from fellow captain Derek Collins to prevail in overtime. Jayden Kritikos (2 assists) and Collins both had two goals for Peabody (now 4-3), with Steven Brown adding two and Antonio Anzalone one.
The Panthers (0-6) received four goals and two helpers from Will Burgess, plus two goals and two assists from Connor Wallace, a goal apiece from Ridley Acheson and Kaleb Kaplan, and a 16 stops in net from Lucas Carbone.
Masconomet 11, Marblehead 10 (OT): Tony Giacchino scored five times and netminder Michael Kenny made a career high 21 saves as the Chieftains (6-2) rallied late to tie the game, then win it in the extra session. Colin Driscoll also had a big game offensively with three goals and two assists, with Colten Russo and Tyler Guaranga both adding a goal and two helpers. John Miga added a goal and one assist, with Ben Miga and Myles Bernier also picking up assists while Will Carey (assist) won 11-of-17 draws in the faceoff circle.
Marblehead (3-4) led 10-8 with a little over a minute to go, but self inflicted wounds, including throwing the ball away in the box, opened the door for Masconomet to rally. Will Sullivan finished with five goals and one assist, Reece Moore added two goals and one assist, and Tyler Forbes had one goal and two assists. James Achterhof and Kyle Thibodeau also scored, Ben Zamansky (2) and Sean Dolan added assists, and goalie Colin Maniaci finished with 13 saves.
Pingree 20, Berwick 12: With its starters only playing one half, the Highlanders got nine saves from backup goalie Marcello Amadeo to roll on the road Henry Card and Quinn Donovan each had three goals and one assist for Pingree (8-1) and Jake Hiltz also had three goals. Nick Donovan (2G, 2A), Connor Roszkowski (2G), Massimo DeSantis (2A), Connor O’Neil (G, 2A), Charlie Cunningham (G, A), Matt Tersolo (G), Nick Moulison (G), Finley McClintock (G, plus 17-for-18 on faceoffs), Mica Johnson (G) and Sam Brodsky (A) all got on the scoresheet as well.
Landmark 13, Waring 8: Senior Sebby Wells led the Wolfpack with three goals and two assists while sophomore goalie You Zhang played well with 13 saves.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cambridge 3, St. John’s Prep 0: The Falcons grounded the Eagles in straight sets.
GIRLS TRACK
Beverly 94, Winthrop 29: Fellow senior Lillian Judge captured the 400 hurdles (1:10), mile (6:25) and high jump (5 feet) in an excellent showing to power the Panthers. Senior captain Grace Galbreath was a double winner in the 100 hurdles (16.38 seconds) and 200 meters, with other first place finishers for BHS including junior captain Grace Williams in the 400 (1:05), junior Carolin Orrin in hte 2-mile (12:08), sophomore Olivia Anketell in the 100 (13.79), junior Reese Kwiatek in the discus (a PR of 67 feet 1 inch), and the 4×100 relay of Dariana Day, Madison Scoglio, Julia Guanci and Lily McCarthy.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 15, UMass Dartmouth 3: The hits keep coming for the No. 3 ranked Gulls (28-3), who added 18 more to their nation best total. Danny MacDougall had three hits and three RBI and Kyle Grabowski and T.J. Liponis (3 runs, 2 RBI) also had three hit afternoons.
Salem State 10, Suffolk 4: Derek Angell went 3-for-3 with two RBI, Owen Duggan had three hits and Lucas Rincon drove in two to help Salem State (13-14) outpace the Rams. Marblehead native Ian Maude pitched very well in relief for Suffolk, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing only one run.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Tufts 7, Endicott 3: The Gulls (17-11) were held to three hits in the non-league loss. Paige Berdos had one of the hits with an RBI allowed five runs in the late innings after taking a 3-2 lead.
Vikings, Gordon split: The Scots dropped Salem State, 6-3, before the Vikings returned the favor with a 6-1 win. Emily Graham went the distance with five strikeouts to beat SSU and added two hits, as did Ami Rivera. Salem State (16-16) rebounded thanks to doubles by Sulu Roberge (2 RBI), Taylor MacDermott and Dawn Eisnor.
MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Endicott 22, Gordon 4: Cam Fernandez had four goals and seven assists and Nick Grapp also scored four as Endicott (13-3) score the first 19 goals of the game and remained unbeaten in conference play. Colin Liscomb faced an otherworldly 56 shots in net for Gordon (1-11) and stopped 34 of the them and Ryan Arthur scored four times.
MEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS
Colby-Sawyer 4, Gordon 3: The Scots were shaded despite three set singles wins by St. John’s Prep grad Carleton Reister (6-3, 5-7, 6-2) and Jeffrey Bodner (4-6, 6-4, 7-5).
Bridgewater State 9, Salem State 0: The Vikings fell to 2-5 and the closest they came to scoring a point was a three-set loss by Quentin Wilkins at first singles.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Endicott 24, Gordon 7: Ava Amara, Leah Black, Clare Wendell and Mia Samarjian all had three goals to lead a balanced effort by Endicott (13-4). Bailey Sheehan had a team-high seven points on two goals and five assists for Endicott and Kaitlyn Mini did most of the damage for Gordon (2-14) with four goals.
