THOMASVILLE – It’s a phrase that is probably tired by now, but it remains true nonetheless. Brookwood needs consistency. The lack of it was on full display Friday night as the Warriors hosted just their second home game of the season. The Warriors took a tough 41-14 loss to the Frederica Academy Knights.
To start on a positive note, Brookwood freshman QB Roland Waldrop looked good in the game. He threw for 123 yards and a touchdown and, aside from his one interception, seemed comfortable and confident in the backfield. He had two touchdowns in the game, one in the air to Pearson Taylor and one on the ground.
Even better was his connection with Seth Boggs in the game. Against Frederica’s Jayden Gibson, a corner with offers from UCF, Kentucky, and Florida, Waldrop and Boggs connected five times for 68 yards and an average of 13.6 yards per reception.
“Those two put in work. They put in the work in practice, and they put it in afterward,” said Warriors head coach Shane Boggs. “I think you can see that. And they did it against a corner over there that’s been offered by Florida. We did some pretty good stuff against him at times. I’m proud of that. You’ve got a sophomore and a freshman going against a kid with a Florida offer and they did some good stuff.”
Outside of that, there were a lot of the same things that have hurt Brookwood all season long on display. The Warriors were very inconsistent in their play. Most big first-down plays were followed up by multiple plays that went for no gain. There was a lack of efficiency on offense and a lack of pursuit on defense, something that Boggs has been talking about since week one.
Boggs did, however, seem pleased with the offensive line saying he felt they had more movement than they’d had in a long time.
“We’re not happy about the score at all,” Boggs said. “But I think you do have to recognize progress, and I think in a lot of ways we made progress.”
Brookwood will continue their home stand this coming Friday as they welcome Southwest Georgia Academy to Thomasville.
