The Village of Lewiston is looking for more state grant funding to improve the Lewiston Landing area.
The village board approved an application seeking up to $600,000 through the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. It would be the sixth phase of ongoing improvements.
Village Engineer Mike Marino said the village is looking to replace staircases close to the Griffon restaurant and by 1st Street, build a pavilion by the Whirlpool Jet Boats, and stabilize the riverbank by the Silo Restaurant.
The cost estimate for all this is $800,000 with this grant requiring a 25% local match, in this instance $200,000.
Grant applications were due Friday, with the awarding of the grant funds in December. If awarded, with contracting and design phases throughout 2025, Marino anticipates construction starting in spring 2026.
The most recent phase involves replacing the north staircase to the landing’s docks and updating the fish cleaning station.
The village approved a $425,300 bid to Sicoli Construction Services for that work, for which the state awarded $390,000.
Improvements to the Lewiston Landing through the LWRP have been ongoing since 1991.
