Due to construction work at the Cumberland County Courthouse, a few county offices have been relocated to accommodate the work crews and repair work, Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster said.
During last month’s building and grounds committee meeting, Foster explained that the Veterans Service Office moved from the basement of the courthouse across the street to the Milo Lemert building to the former Election Commission office. The Veterans Service Office is now at 2 S. Main St., Suite 105.
The county’s finance department then moved from its office on the third floor down to the basement of the courthouse in the office that was being used by the Veterans Service Office. The finance department is now at 2 N. Main St., Suite 101.
The reason is that roofing work is going to be performed soon on top of the courthouse.
“They’re going to be stripping the roof down and the office on the top floor can’t be occupied while they’re doing the work,” Foster said.
In other areas, Kevin Chamberlin, architect with Upland Design Group, gave county commissioners a brief update on building projects and renovations during June’s building and grounds committee meeting.
Concerning the Cumberland County Archives building renovation project, Chamberlin said, “Everything is moving along well. The foundation has been poured. The rock was closer to the surface than we anticipated but there shouldn’t be a problem with that.”
Last Friday, crews were pouring the concrete slab for the floor of the new addition being built on the rear of the Archives building.
Chamberlin said the courthouse repairs were going well.
“The construction group is doing a good job here in the courthouse,” Foster said.
