Helmet stickers for all
The final play of Thursday night’s State Vocational semifinal will go down in Whittier Tech history as one of the greatest ever in the program.
Literally, all 11 Wildcat defenders were put to an amazing test of strength – two sides pushing with the Northeast Tech QB holding the ball, sandwiched in the middle of this human tug-of-war.
Credit Miguel Robles and David Mercier for the initial season-saving stick, along with teammates Devin Cloyd, Chase Kennedy, Nate Comeau, Jay Vazquez, Anderson Pineda, Mark Nealon, Mateus Paixao, Eric Talley and Elijah Jones who joined the scrum, preserving Whittier’s 20-14 win.
Andover’s Fenton honored
Saint Michael’s College field hockey captain Addy Fenton of Andover picked up a nice honor this week when she was named to the NCAA Division 2 Senior team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The Phillips Academy product, one of 38 players honored nationally, had 15 defensive saves this year, tying for the top spot in the nation and in the NE-10 Conference. That is a school mark as is her 24 career defensive saves.
Salem’s Harvey back on ice for USA
Salem’s Caroline Harvey will represent the nation again, this time with the U.S. Collegiate Women’s Select Team that will compete in Finland at the Six Nations Tournament from Dec. 11-15.
Harvey is one of 10 players on this team that also took home a silver medal at the 2024 IHF World Championships.
Delgado off and running at NECC
Have you caught the start that freshman Alejandro Delgado is off to with coach Darren Stratton’s Northern Essex Community College hoop team?
Haverhill’s Delgado, an Eagle-Tribune Super Team selection last winter, leads the 6-2 Knights at 14.1 points and 8.4 rebounds a game.
NECC takes to its home floor on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. to face Mass Bay CC.
