Friday delivered pop-up showers, microbursts and double rainbows to Cape Ann.
While the microbursts lead to an hours-long power outage in Rockport, they also produced the double rainbows.
“A single rainbow is an optical illusion created by the reflection, refraction, and dispersion of light through the prism of a water drop,” according to rainbowsymphony.com.
“A double rainbow occurs when the light is reflected twice in the drop. It means you can see two different reflections, coming from different angles,” says science.howstuffworks.com.
