GIRLS LACROSSE
Marblehead 15, Tantasqua 12: Sophomore Zoe Dwyer had a team-high six goals to go with two draw controls, a caused turnover and one ground ball as the 33rd seeded Magicians (10-9) went on the road and knocked off No. 32 Tantasqua in Division 2 preliminary round state tournament game.
Ella McConnell also had a big day for Marblehead with three goals and two assists, with Addie Co Peeps (2 goals, 2 assists), Emma Ryan (2 goals, assist) and Maggie Svencer (goal, 3 assists, 10 draw controls) also adding multiple points. Sammy Walker also had a goal, netminder Molly Bullard made five saves, and Chloe Rowland (4 ground balls), Annie Walles (2 ground balls, 2 draw controls), Elisabeth Greely (3 ground balls), Avery Wysor (1 ground ball, 1 draw control) and Gwen Potter (1 draw control) all making big contributions to the victory.
Peabody 15, North Attleboro 5: Senior Eleni Spack made 12 saves and the No. 36 Tanners (12-7) used a 12-1 run to blitz the No. 29 Rocketeers in a road Division 2 tournament win. Leah Bresnahan won draw after draw and scored six goals to help Peabody maintain control, Arianna Alvarado scored four and won four draws and Victoria Vaz scored three with five assists. Sophia Galbiati had two goals and Sydney Angland and Leah Ruffing were outstanding defensively for Peabody, which earns a date with No. 4 Duxbury less than 24 hours after this trip.
Hamilton Wenham 17, Littleton 1: The Generals took care of business in the D4 first round behind Evie Bernard (four goals, assist, 13 draw controls) and Jane Boardman (three goals, three assists). Additional goals scored by Grace Glidden (two goals), Caroline Ciriello (two), Bailey Shepherd (two, assist), Samantha Nevins (two), Emmy Pitkin and Pieper Tosh. Maddie Graber added a pair of assists and Charlotte Waldron had one.
Molly Ryan, Grayson Folger, Layla Yankee and Brynn Fall played well defensively in front of goalies Rowan Sheckells (1 save) and Hazel McWilliams (2 saves) for the No. 3 seed Generals (13-2).
GIRLS TENNIS
Danvers 3, East Longmeadow 2: In a Division 2 preliminary round match, the Falcons (8-9) emerged victorious. Paige Sherman (6-2, 6-3) and Isabel Beaudoin (6-0, 6-2) picked up singles wins for the 31st seeded Blue-and-White, with Hadley Brown and Claire Lyman going three sets in first doubles (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) before prevailing. First singles player Josie Vogel also played extremely well in a three-setter.
Marblehead 4, Nauset 1: The Magicians won four of the five battles in straight sets to advance in the Division 2 state tourney. Harper Mooney and Lilly O’Keefe won 6-1, 6-2, Samara Dosch was next off the court with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph and captains Joy Meshulam and Caroline Bruett clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Sophie Li won in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 and Marblehead improved to 12-6 while moving on to next week’s Sweet 16 round.
BOYS TENNIS
Masconomet 5, St. Mary’s Lynn 0: It was a clean sweep at home for the Chieftains, who advanced to the second round for the first time in seven years. Winners were Kai Hird (6-0, 6-3), Henry Tissera (6-0, 6-3) and unbeaten third singles player Parker Kurtz (6-1, 6-1). Arjun Schrejakar and Karthik Nargund won 6-7, 6-3, 19-17 in a super tiebreaker and Akash Menon teamed with Alex Raymond for a 6-2, 6-0 win. The No. 6 seed Chieftains will host either Marshfield or Northhampton in the Sweet 16 early next week.
