The 32nd Annual Trussville Daybreak Rotary Charity Golf Tournament was held n Monday, Oct. 7, at Grayson Valley Country Club.
Rotary would like to thank Presenting sponsor Milam and Co. Construction; Platinum sponsors Amerex Corporation, First Baptist Church Trussville and Commissioner Joe Knight; and Gold sponsors Bryant Bank, Carroll Pharmacy and Sain Associates; as well as all hole sponsors for their support.
Courtesy Buick GMC once again sponsored the fan-favorite ball drop, where up to 1,200 golf balls were dropped from a helicopter (special thanks to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department). Winner, Mike Milam, walked away with $2,000 in prize money.
The first-place team was the team from Lifewave (David Jett, Tracy Neal, Justin Kattus and Saxon Rockett). Second place went to the Courtesy Buick GMC team (Drew Lolley, Craig Foster, Alex Benson and Steve Clugston) and third place went to the Commissioner Joe Knight Team (Joe Knight, Stan Hogeland, Buddy Choat and Cal Markert).
The tournament raises money for scholarships for area students and other local projects. This year’s tournament raised about $20,000 for scholarships for area high school seniors. Next year’s tournament is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at Grayson Valley Country Club.
Proceeds from Rotary fundraising events, including the coordination of this golf tournament for 32 years, go toward the club’s many projects. Those projects include scholarship opportunities for local high school students, Dr. Seuss books for local elementary students, ribbons at City Hall in recognition of Veterans’ Day, lunch for campers and staff at Smile-a-Mile, trees planted at Civitan Park, and more. The Club also funded the clock tower in downtown Trussville, benches at the walking track at Cahaba Elementary, and playground equipment at The Mall in historic Trussville.
The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club meets at First Baptist Church Trussville on Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. For more information on the club, or to help with projects, ‘like’ them on Facebook (Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club), follow on Instagram, or email Diane Poole at dlpoole1225@gmail.com.
