A Chenango County man was arrested after he allegedly tried to remove a state trooper’s gun from its holster during a dispute.
According to a state police news release, Cagan Sodan, 25, of Greene, was arrested Jan. 4 after the incident.
Troopers from the Norwich station responded about 3:31 p.m. to a residence on English Lane in Greene after a report of a domestic dispute. “Upon arrival, a Trooper encountered an adult male who was uncooperative and became combative during the investigation,” the release stated. “During the encounter, Sodan attempted to grab the Trooper’s service weapon from its holster.”
The trooper was able to restrain Sodan and take him into custody. Sodan had an injury to his hand that he sustained from punching a window, prior to his encounter with police, according to the release. The trooper was not injured.
Sodan has been charged with:
• Second-degree attempted robbery, a Class C felony;
• Second-degree attempted assault, a Class E felony;
• Reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor;
• Fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor;
• Obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
Sodan was transported to the Chenango County Jail for arraignment. He was remanded until his next court date on Jan. 8, according to the release.
