BOYS LACROSSE
Hamilton-Wenham 16, Amesbury 10: Billy Brown scored eight goals and added two assists for a 10-point night as the Generals won their first game of the season Thursday night on the turf at Danvers High. Captain Charlie Convey added five goals of his own to go with two assists; Tyler Arvidson scored twice and Zach Sachsel added a goal and one assist. Goaltender Jackson Pitkin had a big game for Hamilton-Wenham (1-13) as well, stopping 14 shots.
Marblehead 11, Melrose 4: Will Sullivan (assist), Reece Moore and Tyler Forbes all finished with three goals as the Magicians (9-7) bounced back from a Wednesday loss with a huge character win. Colin White and Owen Dulac added single goals, James Achterof finished with two assists, and goalie Colin Maniaci stopped eight shots.
Swampscott 12, Beverly 10: Chase Russo, the team’s leading scorer, added to it with four goals and two assists as the Big Blue climbed to 9-7. Liam Keaney, Tyler Ostroff and Jason Rothwell all finished with two goals for Swampscott, which also got one apiece from Jay Domelowicz and Drew Hause. Timmy Sheehan stopped 12-of-21 shots before giving way to Colton Alex (1 save) in the late stages.
Senior Connor Wallace continue his hot streak of late with four goals and an assist for the Panthers (3-11), with Will Burgess, Ridley Acheson and Talan Rafter all adding two goals and one assist. Chris McKie had two assists, Kaleb Kaplan one, and Lucas Carbone turned aside 21 shots in the BHS cage.
GIRLS TENNIS
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Manchester Essex 2: A big win in first doubles by Olivia Romans and Evelyn Esdaile (7-6, 7-6) helped the Generals (11-2) secure at least a share of the CAL Baker title by avenging their only lead loss of the season. Naomi Provost won for H-W, 6-1, 6-0, and Sofie Greene and Gabriella Jewett finished the match with a 7-6, 6-1 doubles point.
Danvers 3, Marblehead 2: The Falcons won all three singles points with Josie Vogel’s 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Callie Gilmore being the match of the day and deciding the tied battle. Madison Savage (6-1, 7-5) and Sophie Sanidas (6-3, 6-4) also won for Danvers while Marblehead took both doubles points behind Lani Gilmore/Reese Friedman (6-0, 6-0) and Josie Reers/Caroline Bruett (6-1, 6-2).
Beverly 5, Peabody 0: The Panthers swept the Tanners behind Grace Adams(6-1, 6-2), Olivia Devereaux(6-0, 6-0), and Sophie Litterer(6-4, 6-2) along with the teams of Ella McAleer and Sophia Gallo (6-0, 6-2) and Lilliana Jimenez and Caroline Kearney (6-1, 6-0).
SOFTBALL
Salem 7, Winthrop 2: Barbara Rowley drove in four runs on three hits and Annie Thornett struck out seven in a 3-hitter as the Witches evened their record at 7-7. Julia Gauthier had a productive day with two hits, three RBI and two runs, as did Faith Sanchez-Schroeder with three hits and two runs. Liv Loux also scored three times and Rylee Bettencourt and Ivy Meehan were standouts in the field.
Marblehead 1, Boston Latin Academy 0: Junior Tessa Francis recorded her 500th career strikeout, punching out 15 total batter in another 2-hit shutout. Luka Bornhorst drove in Lucy Rogers with a second inning triple for the game’s only run as the Magicians improved to 13-2.
BASEBALL
Essex Tech 3, Rockport 2: Declan Feeney’s RBI sparked a two run sixth for the Hawks (8-9), who won their third straight. Freshman Ryan Skerry got a pop-up to end the seventh for the save and Liam Waterman struck out five over six innings to earn the win. Xavier Parsons had two hits and Jacoby Casinelli Tarasuik and Danny Greenfield also had big hits during the sixth inning rally.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Essex Tech 17, Wilmington 9: Janelle Dalton scored three times including her 100th career goal and Jalyn Dos Santos and Morgan Costa (three assists) each potted four to help the Hawks improve to 7-9. Frankie Roper stopped three hots, Sydney Mace and Bella Vetrano scored two each and Chelsea Martinez and Gabby Adie both scored once.
Bishop Fenwick 11, Danvers 4: Breanna Genzale had a hat trick and celebrated her 100th career goal and Molly Sullivan also scored three as the Crusaders (16-2) rolled up their fourth straight win. Kiley Bloom had a goal and two assists, Alison Doherty scored twice and Hannah Bettencourt and Caroline Lapalme also scored. Courntey McKenzie made six saves and Fenwick got great defensive play from Cori McMeniman.
Savannah Botthof added to her team-leading total with three more goals for Danvers on Senior Night. Sienna Goldberg had the other goal, plus an assist and four ground balls for the Falcons, which got five draw controls and five ground balls from Olivia Henry as well as 11 saves from goalie Annabel Boyd.
BOYS TENNIS
Bishop Fenwick 5, Salem 0: Coming up with straight set victories for the Crusaders (now 11-4 overall) were Cole Schroeder (6-2, 6-2), Nolan Topp (6-4, 6-1), Will Rand (6-4, 6-2) and the teams of Chris Connors/Jaime Aguilar (6-2, 6-2) and Robert Beader/Giuseppe Lepore (6-1, 6-1).
Manchester Essex 4, Hamilton-Wenham 1: Grayson Munich and Kevin Spoon picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win for the Generals and Rory Taylor played extremely well at first singles in a 6-7, 6-4, 4-6 loss.
Marblehead 5, Malden Catholic 0: The Magicians completed the sweep with a late second doubles win by Quinn Fletcher and Graydon Waller (6-7, 7-5, 10-8). TJ Kelly (6-2, 6-3), Austin Bacon (6-0, 6-1) and Leo Winocour (6-1, 6-3) swept and Matt Sherf and Alex Boehning won 6-0, 6-2.
BOYS TRACK
Prep tops Catholic Conference: The 4×100 relay of Ahmir Hykel, Dayvian Sullivan, Aaron Radke, Andrew McManmon set a meet record of 42.78 seconds and St. John’s racked up 198 points to outpace BC High as Catholic Conference meet champs for a sixth straight season. Also winning league titles for the Eagles were Gael Garcia (shot put, 54-feet-2 1/4 inches), Kye McClory (javelin, 165-3), Tyson Stroope (high jump, 6-foot-4), Sullivan (long jump 21-9), Leo Emerson (high hurdles, 15.24 seconds) and Noah Kabel (400, 57.24).
