THOMASVILLE – On Wednesday night the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs volleyball team celebrated their group of eight seniors with a region win over Mitchell County. The Lady Bulldogs took down the Eagles in two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-5.
This year’s volleyball seniors are a class of hard workers, academic successes, and extremely involved girls. The group of Anna Shokat, Emory Cochran, Jenna Collins, Jordyn Bush, Hannah Hawkins, Avery Long, Mikayla Watts, and Harper Page consists of class presidents, club presidents and vice presidents, and so much more.
“They fill a lot of leadership roles as well as academically they do a lot of things,” said Thomasville head volleyball coach Jackie King. “The examples they set academically as well as their performance in volleyball is a great example to the younger girls.”
King would later say that it was “hard not to get emotional” during senior night.
“I’ve loved seeing them grow and take on those leadership roles and supporting me,” King said.
Thomasville has really needed and utilized that leadership this season. The Lady Bulldogs began the season with seven straight losses as they faced high-level competition in preparation for 1A play. Since beginning 1A play, Thomasville has rattled off 16 straight wins and has lost just two sets. Those two sets were to Thomas County Central, a 5A program.
Thomasville has played 11 matches against 1A competition and has not only won every match but has not lost a set. With two wins on the final night of their season, the Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season 16-7 overall, undefeated in the region, and secured the region title.
The GHSA state volleyball tournament will begin on October 15 and 16 with the first round.
