The first public July 4th fireworks celebration takes place on Wednesday in Olcott along Lake Ontario.
For the actual Independence Day holiday, municipal displays are set for Niagara Falls, Lockport and Lewiston as well as Oppenheim Park in Wheatfield. The Hartland show at Royalton Ravine has been moved to July 27 in Barker to coincide with this year’s Corn Festival.
There are two big shows to choose from on Friday night as the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino hosts its always impressive display in downtown Niagara Falls and the Twin Cities — Tonawanda and North Tonawanda promise to “Light Up the Sky” from Tonawanda Island in NT.
The Independence Day fireworks come to a close with the Town of Niagara’s annual display at Veteran’s Memorial Park in the town on Saturday night. A day-long concert featuring a series of tribute bands —featuring the music of Tom Petty, Styx, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles — will lead up to the fireworks show.
Depending how you feel about sharing the fun with our neighbors to the north you could kick off the celebrating a little early. The Niagara Falls fireworks program will have a special extended display today in honor of Canada Day. Thursday’s show is also extended for July 4th. A five-minute fireworks show takes place every night through October as well — so stop by Tuesday night to warm up for Olcott’s big show.
