CUMBERLAND — A teenager was thrown from a vehicle that overturned on state Route 51 Monday morning and flown to a West Virginia trauma center, according to Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Chief Michael Salvadge.
The crash was reported at the intersection of Route 51 and Mexico Farms Road just before 6:30 a.m.
From the first caller’s report, a Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter was requested, according to an Allegany County Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
Units from District 16, Bowling Green and Wiley Ford volunteer fire departments, ambulances from Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and Cumberland Fire Department and a county EMS supervisor responded to the crash.
The female teen suffered extremity injuries, Salvadge said. She was taken by ambulance to meet Trooper 5 at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport.
The medevac transported the teen to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, according to Salvadge.
He could not confirm if the teen was wearing a seat belt.
A second occupant in the vehicle refused medical attention, Salvadge said.
Maryland State Police is investigating the crash.
