LONDONDERRY — A 17-year-old girl died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on the southbound side of Interstate 93, according to New Hampshire State Police.
At 2:47 p.m. Friday, State Troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks responded to a crash near mile marker 14 on I-93 southbound.
Troopers arrived and, after speaking with witnesses, determined a gray 2008 Mercury Milan was traveling southbound when it went off the interstate to the right-hand side and struck several trees, according to a press release from the state police.
The interstate was shut down for a brief period of time while members of the Londonderry Fire Department worked to extricate the driver from the vehicle. A Boston Medflight helicopter was called but turned back after the girl was taken to the hospital.
The driver, identified as Lillianna Cawthron of Londonderry, was transported to Elliott Hospital in Manchester with life-threatening injuries. Cawthron ultimately succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.
