GROVELAND — A local ice cream stand celebrated America’s 250th birthday in its own way with a sundae boasting the same number of scoops on Wednesday.
Jeff and Maria’s Ice Cream and Hot Dogs, 918 Salem St., created a 250-Scoop Salute with strawberry, vanilla and cookie monster ice cream serving as the red, white and blue.
The sundae attracted hundreds on a hot evening to scoop up a free cup and celebrate the occasion with neighbors.
“We had to do something to honor 250 beautiful years of America,” shop owner Jeff Boragine said. “But as an ice cream shop, we also had a duty to create something special for our customers to enjoy for free as a thank you for supporting us over the years.”
One of the best parts of the evening was seeing everyone happy and enjoying the ice cream with family, he said.
Neko Moschella of Haverhill smiled as scooper Rob Feudo handed her the sweet treat, which she enjoyed with her brother Henry and mother Hailey Pearson.
Leah Bates, of Groveland, surprised her sons Zach and Jake who didn’t know they were going to the stand.
Boragine and his staff ended up dishing out a few hundred sundaes. He said he has a dedicated team who helped bring smiles to people of all ages, while serving 250 scoops of ice cream.
