SUNY Niagara officials said Thursday there won’t be an increase in tuition for the 2024/25 school year.
The rate of $2,568 per semester for in-state residents and its student fee schedule will remain the same as this past school year. The rate was approved at the Board of Trustees’ May meeting.
School officials did not say if out-of-state tuition, at $5,136 per semester this past school year, will change.
The mandatory fees all SUNY Niagara students pay per credit hour per term are a $20 general fee, a $19 student government and intramural/athletic fee, a $22 course materials fee, which is $27 for culinary and pastry arts majors, and a $50 support services fee.
The 24 other fees students can be charged range from $10 card replacement and locker fees to a $1,800 fee for taking the police academy program.
Board Chairman Kevin Clark said members felt strongly about freezing tuition and fees for the year since many students leaving college are focused more on paying off debts.
“We want to ensure that SUNY Niagara graduates can enter the workforce or shift careers without that burden,” Clark said. “By holding tuition and fees flat for 2024/25, we are doing right by our students and their families.”
The tuition and fees are part of the upcoming year’s $48 million proposed operating budget, which was also approved in May. The Niagara County Legislature will hold a public hearing on the SUNY Niagara budget at 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 6, before voting for approval.
