TRAVERSE CITY — Water sampling conducted on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, found that one Grand Traverse County beach — Sunset Park — exceeded the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy standard for E. coli at 387/100ml. When numbers exceed 300/100 ml, Level 2 conditions are in place, meaning partial-body contact below the waist is advised, like wading but no swimming. Sunset Park will be resampled today, Thursday, with results to be reported on the Fourth of July. All other tested Grand Traverse County beaches — including Sayler Park, Acme Bayside Park, Traverse City State Park, East Bay Park, Bryant Park, TC Senior Center, Clinch Park, TC Volleyball Beach, West End Beach and Haserot Beach, met EGLE standards for E. coli and are Level 1, which supports full-body contact.
