Providence, R.I. – Trevor Hoskin scored the game-winning goal less than three minutes into overtime to lift the No. 8 Merrimack Warriors to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the top-seeded Providence Friars in the Hockey East quarterfinals on Saturday night.
The Warriors (19-15-2) will face No. 2 UMass-Amherst in the Hockey East semifinals at TD Garden on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
Merrimack took a 2-1 lead less than one minute into the third period when Nolan Flamand found the back of the net on the team’s second power-play goal of the game. Nathan King (goal, assist) tied the game at 18:45 of the first period on Merrimack’s first power-play goal.
Goalie Max Lundgren was a star between the pipes, finishing with 34 stops on 36 shots.
