LE SUEUR — Multiple law enforcement agencies, including a regional tactical response team, were called to a home in Le Sueur Saturday afternoon in what became a lengthy standoff. After nearly seven hours, the incident ended with a child safe and an adult male in custody, according to the Le Sueur Police Department.
Bobby Joe Angeloff, 39, of Le Sueur, was charged with felonies for kidnapping, domestic assault, threats of violence and child endangerment, plus a gross misdemeanor for property damage Monday in Le Sueur County District Court.
The department issued a statement late Saturday saying the incident began shortly after 3 p.m. with a domestic disturbance call. When police arrived, they say a man barricaded himself inside the residence with a 6-year-old boy, according to a criminal complaint.
Authorities had earlier posted to Facebook telling residents to “expect a significant law enforcement presence in the vicinity.” An update in the evening continued to request that residents “remain away from the area so public safety personnel and equipment may manage the situation” but characterized it as an isolated incident that did not endanger the general public.
Early Sunday morning, the department reported that “shortly before midnight … law enforcement safely and successfully retrieved the juvenile from the property and took the adult male subject into custody. The scene has been secured.”
A criminal complaint states Angeloff slashed tires on vehicles before barricading himself inside the home. A woman told police that he made threats toward her and himself when she told him she was leaving.
Police reportedly tried at length to get Angeloff to release the child from an upstairs bedroom. The child didn’t have any physical injuries, the complaint states, but did sustain emotional trauma from being kidnapped.
