Champlain Cougars 14U splits two games
PLATTSBURGH — The Champlain Cougars 14U summer baseball team split two games on Saturday at Lefty Wilson Field. The Cougars recorded an 8-2 win over the AuSable River Bandits 14U and were then run-ruled in a 16-4 loss to the Utica Post 229 13U American Legion team.
Lincoln Perkins went the distance for Champlain to get the pitching win against the Bandits as he struck out six, walked two and allowed three hits. Perkins retired 11 batters in a row during one stretch.
Cobe Lafountain, Perkins and Ty Breyette rapped out two hits each for the Cougars, with Breyette driving in three runs. Isaiah Surprenant added a double and Brady Boyd a single in the victory.
Isaac Devine, Ethan Stay and Mark Wilson had the AuSable hits.
Defensive miscues then plagued the Cougars in their loss to Utica. Greyson Lafountain had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run for Champlain, while Cobe Lafountain added a hit and scored two runs.
Earlier in the day, the River Bandits played a very competitive game in a 6-3 setback to the Clinton County Mariners 14U. Stay led the AuSable offense with two hits, while Isaac Devine, Sully Devine, Ethan Doyle and Corbin Gugliemlio each added one.
