Carter commits
If you didn’t read our recent Daily News Boys Lacrosse All-Stars article carefully, then you may have missed some big news. But just a couple of weeks ago — mere days before the article was published — high-scoring Newburyport midfielder Carter Scott verbally committed to Connecticut College in the NESCAC.
The 6-foot-6 lefty picked up both his first Daily News All-Star and All-CAL First Team nod this spring, after finishing the season with 38 goals and 6 assists. Scott, a three-year starter, helped the Clippers (18-2) go undefeated in the CAL, and will enter his senior year next spring with 102 career goals and 22 assists. He also plays basketball for coach Mark Elmendorf during the winter.
Joe Abt made All-MASCAC
It’s clear that Joe Abt has found his college home.
After spending his freshman season at Endicott College, the former Triton baseball standout transferred and his been at Fitchburg State the past two years. In 2024, the Newbury native and former two-time Daily News All-Star appeared in 37 games for the Falcons, and hit .318 with 41 hits, 10 doubles, 17 runs scored, 30 RBI, eight walks and three stolen bases.
But it only got better this spring.
Abt was named to the MASCAC All-Conference Second Team this year, after slugging .411 with 46 hits, nine doubles, two home runs, 39 RBI and 15 walks. He went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI in a 15-0 victory over Anna Maria, and 2-for-4 with his first collegiate home run, a double, four runs scored and two RBI in a 20-4 win against MCLA.
A 4.0 for Eiserman
Cole Eiserman led all NCAA Division I hockey players in goals this winter, scoring 25 of them in just 39 games in helping Boston University reach the National Championship Game. But a lesser-reported fact about the Newburyport native is that, in the classroom, he also earned a stellar 4.0 GPA for the spring semester.
The No. 20 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, it’s clear that pro hockey is in Eiserman’s future. But in the meantime, he’s making sure that he’s taking care of his studies.
It also appears that Eiserman will return to Boston University for his sophomore season this upcoming school year. Still just 19 years old, he’s currently training with the Islanders, and was one of 42 prospects invited to play in Team USA’s World Junior Summer Showcase.
