THOMASVILLE- A community outreach initiative designed to connect the people of Thomasville with various resources was held on Thursday afternoon for the first time since COVID-19.
Known as Southside Community Day, the event was part of Thomasville’s C.O.R.E. (Community Oriented Revitalization and Education) events.
“The goal is to always provide the community with resources,” said Community Outreach Director Ricky Zambrano. “We want to show the residents the strong partnerships there are out in the community.”
Zambrano said many people may not know of everything available to them, which is why he strives to bring numerous partners together to help every group of people.
The event featured the City of Thomasville grilling hotdogs, Second Harvest providing manna drops and boxes of food, New Hire Solutions connecting individuals with jobs, and Thomasville Fire Rescue incorporating fun for the kids with a blow-up fire hydrant sprinkler for them to play in, along with much more.
“Everything is centered around serving the community,” Zambrano said.
Zambrano estimated they served between 150-200 people during the day’s event.
His hope is that through the return of the event people can get connected to organizations and in return provide those same connections to others in need.
