ACCIDENT — Brayden Upole and Jared Haskiell combined for 41 of No. 2 Southern’s 78 points in a 78-54 win at Northern on Friday.
Upole led all scorers with 22 points for the Rams (9-6, 4-2 Western Maryland Athletic Conference), scoring 12 in the first quarter.
Haskiell finished with 19 points including 12 in the first half.
Both players made three 3-pointers.
Jacob Brown added 11 points and was perfect in six trips to the line.
Devin McKenzie led the Huskies (8-8, 1-5 WestMAC) with 17 points including 10 before halftime.
Southern led 26-20 after one quarter and 39-32 at halftime before pulling away in the third, outscoring Northern 22-9 to lead 61-41.
The Huskies host Shanksville on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The Rams welcome Keyser (5-8) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
No. 1 Fort Hill 82, Northern 40
CUMBERLAND — Top-ranked Fort Hill blitzed Northern with 51 first-half points and cruised to its eighth win in nine games.
The Sentinels (9-6, 5-1 WestMAC) led 29-12 after the first quarter, 51-23 at the half and 70-34 after three periods.
Liam Hamilton led the Fort Hill effort with a game-high 20 points, and Gamil Daniels (14), Jabril Daniels (11), Landyn Green (11) and Landen Sweitzer (10) joined him in double figures.
McKenzie paced Northern (8-9, 1-6 WestMAC) with eight points.
Fort Hill is at McConnellsburg (19-1) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
McConnellsburg’s only defeat came to the Maryland School for the Deaf, which started the year on a 20-game win streak and is 20-1 after a loss to Middletown last week.
Fort Hill hosts the Maryland School for the Deaf on Saturday.
No. 4 Mountain Ridge 72, Bishop Walsh 20
FROSTBURG — No. 4 Mountain Ridge held Bishop Walsh under 10 points in all four quarters, cruising to a blowout win on Friday.
The Miners (8-7) led 15-4 after one frame, 33-13 at halftime and 52-18 after three.
Kris Washington, Trenton Diamond and AJ Lauder all scored season-highs.
Washington led both teams with 21 points with only one free throw, connecting on four long balls.
Lauder scored 20 points, also hitting four triples while Diamond finished with 15 points including three 3-pointers.
David DiNola scored 14 of the 20 points for the Spartans (2-13).
Mountain Ridge hosts Keyser (5-8) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Bishop Walsh heads to Hancock on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
No. 5 Petersburg 77, Pendleton Co. 62
FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Five Vikings scored in double figures against Pendleton County Saturday, leading No. 5 Petersburg to its third straight win.
Petersburg (7-5) outscored the Wildcats, 43-28, after halftime. The game was tied at 34 at the half.
The Vikings’ Caden Ours led all scorers with 28 points, burying a trio of 3-pointers, Payton Metheny scored 14, Kaleb Kuhn and Lucas Riggleman tallied 12 each and Peyton Tingler garnered 11.
Pendleton County was led by Josiah Kimble and Chase Owens with 24 and 16 points, respectively.
Petersburg hosts Ravenswood on Tuesday.
Hampshire 53, Berkeley Springs 34
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Hampshire scored three points in the second quarter, but it didn’t matter as the Trojans took care of Berkeley Springs on Friday.
The Trojans (8-7) led 21-6 after one quarter before the Indians outscored them13-6 in the second.
Leading 24-19 at halftime, Hampshire outscored Berkeley Springs 19-6 in the third and led 43-25 after three.
Bryson Richardson was the only Trojan in double figures, scoring a game-high 14 points.
Landen Schetrompf led Berkeley Springs with 11 points.
The Trojans won the junior varsity game 60-58.
Ayden Crabtree, Channing Wilt and Blane Billmeyer each scored 10 points for Hampshire.
The Trojans host North Marion on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Union 64, Paw Paw 45
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Braylon Ward’s game-best 28 points led Union to a win over Paw Paw on Friday.
Ward scored half of his points in the first quarter for the Tigers (6-6).
Jacob Haynes finished with 14 points while Eric Linkswiler added 11 for Union.
Donovan Tanouye led the Pirates (5-12) with 20 points, scoring 11 in the fourth quarter.
Taylor Carder added 10 points for Paw Paw while Nathan Dick grabbed nine rebounds.
“The combination of man to man defense by (Jacob) Haynes, Wolfe and Ward taking turns locking up Carder and Tanouye to hold both of them below their averages,” Union head coach Walt Ward said. “Overall, good defensive effort by our team.”
East Hardy 49, Tygarts Valley 37
MILL CREEK, W.Va. — East Hardy blitzed Tygarts Valley to the tune of a 17-point first-quarter lead Friday for its seventh win in eight games.
The Cougars (11-5) led 23-6 after the first quarter behind seven points from Jordan Teets and six from Mason Hamilton in the period.
Hamilton, recently back from an injury, scored for the first time since Dec. 28 against Hereford at the Southern Snowball Classic. He finished with eight points.
East Hardy, which led 30-15 at the half and 42-28 after three quarters, was paced by Teets with 17 points. Gideon Good finished with eight points, ending a streak of 15 straight games with double figures to begin the season for the 6-foot-6 big man.
Jacob Wamsley was the high scorer for Tygarts Valley with 13 points.
East Hardy is at Harman on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
