LAWRENCE — The Merrimack River was covered with steam on Saturday, as the Steamboat Regatta hosted by the Institute for Industrial Art and History of North Andover and the Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program took place for the first time ever.
The steamboats went up and down the Merrimack River and afterward were docked, allowing the public to approach the historic crafts and learn how they operate.
About 10 boats cruised the river with their captains, crew and guests as people watched from shore.
