In an effort to work ahead of schedule, the Cumberland County Board of Education intends to begin discussing the budget early this year.
During the school board’s September retreat, the budget agenda addressed tackling the budget in small bites by holding monthly budget meetings during work sessions.
The school board requested that Director of Schools Rebecca Farley compile a list of topics, or “Budget Bites” the board can address during each work session.
In September, the board will look at the bus driver situation. During the retreat, Farley said the transportation department is 11 drivers short to cover the bus routes. As of the publishing of the work session agenda, the bus driver information sheet says the department is eight drivers short.
In October, the board intends to discuss furniture/mower/playground equipment. In the combined November/December meeting, the board will look at supplements.
In January, the board will address pay scales and insurance. In February, the board will look at the athletic schedules.
In March, the board will look at the maintenance and capital schedules.
The board discussed scheduling an additional board retreat Nov. 6.
The time and location is to be determined.
Elizabeth Stull, 1st District, and Anita Hale, 4th District, were not present at the retreat.
To share a public comment at the full board meeting Sept. 25, there will be a sign up sheet outside of the board room. Comments are limited to three minutes. All public comments must adhere to board policy 1.404.
The Cumberland County Board of Education is scheduled to meet for its work session Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. in the Central Services building at 368 Fourth St. in Crossville.
The agenda has not been set yet.
