MANKATO — The Mankato Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign exceeded its $30,000 for a recent Match Days challenge.
Despite recent wintry weather during the three-day promotion, about $40,000 was raised in three days, Capt. Andy Wheeler stated in a press release.
On Wednesday — the campaign’s first day — $8,000 was raised. Severe weather on the second day — Thursday — slowed progress toward the goal.
On Friday, Wheeler received a phone call from a representative of a group of businesses inquiring about the campaign. After learning there was a shortfall, the caller assured him help was on the way.
Donations from Wow!Zone, Victory Bowl, the 300 Club in Le Sueur and Kegel Klub in New Ulm are credited by Wheeler as businesses that helped top the goal by at least $10,000, making the total amount an estimated $40,000.
The Red Kettle Campaign ends on Christmas Eve. Donations can be made in the form of cash as well as a tap-to-pay option at select locations.
The Salvation Army in Mankato annually provides more than 15,500 free meals to the community and gives out more than 1,600 free winterwear items.
