A popular rock band is reuniting for its first concert in 12 years.
Fountains of Wayne will perform at Summerfest in Milwaukee, the music festival announced Wednesday. The lineup will feature singer Chris Collingwood, guitarist Jody Porter, drummer Brian Young and Eve 6 bassist Max Collins, who will replace late member Adam Schlesinger.
Fountains of Wayne will appear during Summerfest’s July 3-5 weekend, along with artists like Benson Boone, The Lumineers, Chicago, Richard Marx, and Everclear. Tickets are on sale at summerfest.com.
Schlesinger, a founding member of Fountains of Wayne and Ivy, died in April 2020 from complications due to Covid. He played bass and contributed vocals in Fountains of Wayne, but was also well-known as a songwriter, including co-writing FOW’s 2003 hit “Stacy’s Mom.”
Schlesinger, a cousin of “The Walking Dead” actor Jon Bernthal and the grandson of Syracuse musician and Famous Artists Broadway Theater Series producer Murray Bernthal, won a Grammy Award and three Emmys for his work on TV shows like “Sesame Street,” “A Colbert Christmas” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”; was nominated for an Oscar for writing “That Thing You Do,” the Wonders’ song from Tom Hanks’ 1996 movie of the same name; and was nominated for two Tony Awards for the “Cry-Baby” musical in 2008. Schlesinger’s credits also include music for the 2007 Hugh Grant movie “Music and Lyrics,” the 2001 movie “Josie and the Pussycats,” and the theme song for Kathy Griffin’s 2012-2013 talk show “Kathy.”
Collins is best known as the singer, bassist and primary songwriter for Eve 6, the alternative rock band behind hits “Promise,” “Here’s to the Night,” and “Inside Out.” His music projects also include Marms + The Car Deaths, Fitness, and Chevy Mustang.
The Summerfest concert will be Fountains of Wayne’s first public performance since 2012, according to Rolling Stone.
The reunited Fountains of Wayne will also perform Sept. 6, at the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Maryland, according to Pitchfork. Tickets for Oceans Calling, which features headliners Green Day, Noah Kahan, Fall Out Boy and Weezer, begin presale Friday at oceanscallingfestival.com.
