This weekend, celebrate the country’s 250th birthday while watching and interacting with Revolutionary War Reenactment actors, and make some pioneer-type crafts.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Forest Glen Preserve. Admission to the events is free.
Organizers with the Vermilion Conservation District are encouraging families to come out for a walk back in history.
“See how the Revolutionary War was fought through artillery demonstrations and walk through an encampment presented by the Northwest Territory Alliance Reenactment group,” they say on their website. “Both days will feature activities including fashion shows, tomahawk throwing, ladies’ tea, bayonet competitions, and more! Battle each day at 3:30 pm.”
And on Sunday — you can see what pioneer life was like with fry bread cooking demonstrations, log-splitting, and interactive rope-making.
Children can help with ‘apple pressing’ as well as play a few timely games. There is also a watermelon-eating contest.
