MANCELONA — The Lake City girls volleyball team played tournaments almost nonstop since the season started on Aug. 21.
The Trojans finished the night at the Mancelona quad by going 3-0, sweeping Mancelona (25-16, 25-8), Boyne City (25-17, 25-17) and Kalkaska (25-11, 25-23). Despite the win, Lake City head coach Amber Besko is pleased that the girls have several days off after competing in two tournaments and a quad in just six days.
“We can be grateful that we took three wins today,” Besko said. “We did not play our best yet we still pulled out the wins, and that is all we can celebrate.”
Lake City found contributions in all areas of the floor on Tuesday. Bella Wetzel led the team in digs with 32. Brooklyn Drexler had 10 digs, Scarlett Park wrapped up the night with eight kills, Lexi Comp had 19 digs, Piper McLeod two kills, Makayla Hall 37 assists, Addison Seger 15 kills, Carly Gunnerson two kills, Olivia Gibel 15 kills, Aubree Knuth 17 assists and Lola Manick ended the night with 16 kills.
Mancelona wrapped up the quad by going 0-3.
“Tonight, we played hard and fought some long tough rallies,” Lady Ironmen coach Julie Winslow said. “Majority of our lost points on rallies resulted from errors within our plays. The girls pulled together and stayed ready, we came up short on the scoreboard, but found some areas we need to work on as a team.”
Lake City returns to the floor Sept 3. Kalkaska travels Tuesday to Glen Lake and Mancelona travels Sept. 3 to Pine River.
