Cullman overcame a slow first half on Friday night to earn a 35-0 home win over Brewer.
The Bearcats scored late in the second quarter — Preston Gay tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Ogstad with 4 seconds on the clock — to take a 6-0 halftime lead.
Cullman (3-3) eventually pulled away in the second half following a pair of third-quarter scoring runs by Cooper Loftin and another from Stevie Prologo.
Weston Keel added the final rushing touchdown for the Bearcats in the final frame.
“I thought offensively we were pretty bad in the first half,” Cullman coach Danny Stiff said. “Our defense forced four turnovers, but we couldn’t get anything going on offense. That was kind of the rallying cry at halftime, and we came out and played better. We are still not where I want it to be, so we’ve got some work to do.”
Cullman hosts Hartselle next week in a Class 6A, Region 7 clash.
“Hartselle is a game that means a lot to the coaches and players and people around here,” Stiff said. “It’s a game you shouldn’t have any trouble getting up for. But they are really good — I don’t think they’ve given up a point since Week 1. With how we played on offense tonight and how good they are on defense, we’ve got a major challenge ahead of us.”
