CHARLESTON — Danville’s D’Mario Jackson and Matthew Sherman will be spending an extra day in the IHSA Class 3A track meet.
Jackson was able to make the 200 meter final with an personal-best time of 21.46 seconds in Friday’s prelims, while Sherman’s attempt of 4.40 meters put him in the finals of the pole vault set for today at Eastern Illinois University.
For the sophomore Jackson, this will be the second straight year he goes to the 200 final, where he finished seventh in last year’s final.
Sherman, a junior, will make his first appearance in a final as he was one of 12 jumpers who had the same 4.40m attempts, but is eighth because of number of misses.
Jackson also was in the 100 meter prelims, but finished 29th at 10.92, while Jerry Reed III was 23rd in the 200 meters at 22.24 and Victor Jones was 26th in the high jump (1.81m). The 800 relay team of Reed, Miles Littlepaige, Allante Anderson and Kaden Vance ended up 36th with a time of 1:31.49.
It is the first time since 2023 that at least two Vikings competed in the state finals when Matthew Thomas made it in the 110 hurdles and DeMarion Forman made it in the discus.
The tournament action will start at 10 a.m.
