HOOPESTON — The Hoopeston Area boys basketball team had some slight trouble with Schlarman Academy early in Tuesday’s game.
The Cornjerkers were up 13-12 after the first quarter, but outscored the Hilltoppers 19-7 in the second and went on to get a 69-44 win.
Trenton Montez had 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds for Hoopeston Area, while Brayden Walder had 15 points and five assits, Nick Cardenas had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, Cole Miller had nine points and eight rebounds, Dylan Judy had seven points and Zach Huchel added six points.
Jerrius Atkinson had 17 points to lead Schlarman, while Noah Fowler had 13 points, and Peyton Kummerle added seven points.
The Cornjerkers will play Urbana University High on Thursday, while the Hilltoppers will travel to North Vermillion on Saturday.
