LINCOLN — Shooting woes spoiled the head coaching debut of David Gouard with the Danville Vikings.
Belleville West (1-0) held Danville to just 34.8 percent shooting (16-of-46) in its 73-39 victory at the Lincoln Eaton Thanksgiving Tournament.
Additionally, the Maroons outrebounded the Vikings 39-23, including 16 offensive rebounds.
Danville seniors CL Dye and Jerry Reed IV led the team in scoring with 11 points each while Jaymion Avery had 10. The Vikings played without senior Diddy Robinson, who was serving a one-game suspension for his ejection in Danville’s final regular-season football game against Peoria Notre Dame.
Nicholas Hankins Jr. had a game-high 25 points for the Maroons to go along with eight rebounds. DaShaun Gage also had eight rebounds to go with 12 points.
The Vikings are back in action Tuesday night at home as Danville will host the Champaign Centennial Chargers, a 48-44 winner over Lincoln on Monday night.
The junior-varsity game will start at 5:30 p.m. while the varsity contest is tentatively set for 7 p.m.
