The Power of 100 Women recently awarded Creative Compassion $10,000 for their veterans program.
Creative Compassion is a local housing nonprofit that builds or buys homes for low to moderate income individuals. They also have a home repair program and a veteran’s assistance program.
“As soon as the reward was received, we were contacted by Jack Fogel of the Cumberland County Veterans Assistance Council. He had a veteran who was a single mom in dire need of very expensive plumbing work,” said Mark Baldwin, development director for Creative Compassion.
The project was so expensive that the council needed help from others to meet the need. Fogel reached out to Creative Compassion and Habitat for Humanity, creating a new partnership that led to the needs of a local veteran being met.
“We are so thankful for the Power of 100 Women and their donation to Creative Compassion that set this wonderful partnership in motion,” said Baldwin. “The remaining funds that we received from the Power of 100 Women will be used to help another local veteran who is elderly and in need of home repair work, including repairs to porch steps that have become unsafe,” Baldwin said.
Creative’s veterans assistance program operates from donations and fundraisers. The two main fundraisers are the Stars and Stripes 5K in May and the Upper Cumberland Bigfoot Festival in October.
