HAMILTON — Two residents were displaced following a fire at a single-family home on Berrywood Lane on Wednesday.
The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a home at 48 Berrywood Lane at 6:20 p.m.Wednesday. With mutual aid received from crews from Hamilton, Wenham, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea Chief James “Jake” McNeilly and Ladder 1, the fire was extinguished after about 16 minutes, followed by about an hour of overhaul to check for remaining hot spots.
“Hamilton and Wenham firefighters made an aggressive attack and quickly knocked down the fire, preventing further extension and minimizing damage to the home,” McNeilly said. “Their professionalism, training and teamwork were on full display.”
While crews operated at the scene, additional fire crews from Beverly, Ipswich, and Topsfield covered the Hamilton Fire Station to ensure continued coverage.
While the majority of the damage was contained to the garage — the fire’s point of origin — there was some extension into the main part of the house, which resulted in the two occupants being displaced, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not present as suspicious, according to Hamilton Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan.

7:12 p.m.: An area search on Maplewood Avenue for a juvenile matter was negative.
4:55 p.m.: A disabled motor vehicle was towed from Route 128 north.
4:54 p.m.: Animal control was called for a large turtle on Essex Avenue but the turtle was gone when they arrived.
12:44 p.m.: Services were provided for a firearms report at Norwood Heights.
Burglar alarms: Services were provided on Western Avenue at 7:16 a.m., and on Leverett Street at 9:47 a.m.
