NORTH MANKATO — Close to $1,660 in cash and 1,260 pounds of non-perishable items were donated to a local emergency food pantry Saturday during the North Mankato Fun Days Parade.
The Pile It On tradition started in 1993. Over the years, more than 84,000 pounds of non-perishable items and $60,000 in cash donations have been collected for ECHO.
Volunteer turnout Saturday included representatives from Target, KEYC News Now, Snell Motors, Radio Mankato stations as well as ECHO board members. Mayflower provided additional support.
The organizers credited great weather during the parade — along with a large number of spectators — for the successful fundraiser, said a Radio Mankato press release.
