MOULTRIE — Master Gunnery Sgt. Torres J. Parrish, a native of Norman Park, recently retired from the United States Marine Corps after 27 years of service.
Parrish graduated from Colquitt County High School in the Class of 1997. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1998 and completed Recruit Training Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.
He is the son of Pernell and Margaret Adams of Moultrie. He is the husband of Sheree Parrish; they have two sons, Tykerion and Jalyn Parrish. He and his family reside in Virginia.
He has five siblings: Natasha Johnson of Tenneville, Ga, Adrian Parrish of Atlanta; Pamela Canty and Deloris Turner of Norman Park; and Derrick D. Brown of Moultrie.
During his 27 years of service, Parrish has been on several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. From 1998 to 2018 he accomplished many promotions and received several awards until he reached the pinnacle rank of master gunnery sergeant in September 2020. He has obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, with a myriad of military training and schools.
Parrish’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of fourth award, Good Conduct Medal in lieu of ninth award, Combat Action Ribbon and NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.
