OSWEGO — The Plattsburgh State baseball team held in there against Oswego for five innings on Thursday in their SUNYAC game.
The Cardinals’ bullpen, however, imploded in the sixth and seventh innings as Plattsburgh (8-15, 1-8) dropped a 15-5 setback to the Lakers (16-11, 6-4), with the contest called in the seventh due to the run rule.
The Cardinals, who had their scoring chances in the contest, trailed by a 6-4 score after five.
Losing pitcher Kolby Mordecki surrendered four earned runs in five innings and struck out 10. Mordecki went over the 100-strikeout mark for his career and now has 109.
Plattsburgh relievers then gave up nine runs in 1.2 innings as the Lakers pulled away. Oswego tallied seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and ended the game by the run rule with still an out to go.
Plattsburgh trailed, 3-0, after two, but cut its deficit to 3-2 after three. The Cardinals tied it with a run in the top of the fourth, only to have Oswego regain the lead, this time for good, with two in the home half of the inning.
Oswego banged out five extra-base hits, with Anthony Barone getting two of them. He finished with a double, home run, two runs scored and five RBI. Dylan Rosenburg added four hits, three runs scored and two RBI.
The Lakers ran the bases well and had 12 stolen bases in the contest.
Plattsburgh ended up with eight hits. Josh Foglia accounted for three hits and a RBI, while Zach Rainville added two hits, one run scored and a RBI.
The two teams completed their three-game set yesterday.
