The Oneonta indoor track and field teams swept the Section IV Division 2 Championships for the first time in program history on Saturday at Cornell University.
Beckett Holmes led the OHS boys with a pair of victories in the high jump and long jump.
Other first-place finishes for the Yellowjackets came from Keyon Ziaie (1000), Darren Rose (triple jump), Colin Fletcher-Foster (1600) and Noah Cotter (600). Fletcher-Foster set a school record in the 1600 with a time of 4:31.45.
Earning runner-up finishes were Holmes (55 hurdles), Rose (55 dash), Gabriel Rissberger (100), Logan Temming (pole vault) and Jackson Forbes (600). The Oneonta boys also swept all three relay events.
On the girls side, Becky Foko and Claire Seguin led the Yellowjackets with victories in the weight throw and 300 meter race, respectively.
Earning second-place finishes were Alex Broodie in the 55 hurdles and Madeleine Seguin in the 55 dash. OHS won both the 800 and 1600 relays and placed second in the 3200 relay.
The Sidney boys and girls teams each finished second overall in Division 2..
Michael Morrissey earned a pair of victories in the shot put and weight throw while Carson Strauss won the 3200 meter run.
Finishing second were Logan Mott in the shot put and Travis Weeden in the 300.
For the Sidney girls, Dejah Taylor won the 55 and 600 meter races and was second in the 300, Alex Neubert won the triple jump and Camille Bagley won the shot put.
Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville placed fourth in both the boys and girls standings.
Connor Davy led the way with a win in the boys 55 meter dash.
Victoria Suda (weight throw) and Maddie Ingham (1000) each earned second place for the girls, while Harpo Hardt (triple jump) and Thomas Joyce (300) did the same on the boys side.
Elsewhere in the local ranks, Unadilla Valley’s Jacob Prentice won the boys 300, Delhi’s Nelson VanMaaren (1600), Walton’s Grace Walley (shot put) and UV’s Molly Gorrell (600) each earned runner-up finishes. The Unadilla Valley girls won the 3200 relay.
WRESTLING
The Section IV Qualifying Championships took place on Saturday, with the Class A event being held at Oneonta and the Class B qualifiers taking place at Unadilla Valley.
Oneonta placed third overall as a team in Class A. Leading the way for the Yellowjackets were Marshall Mahar and Alan Little, who finished in first place at 108 and 152 pounds, respectively.
Clayton Ritter, meanwhile, was second at 101 and Isaac Gray (145), Reilly Waltz (170) and Lucas Weaver (190) each placed fourth.
For Greene/Oxford, Aiden Marcin (145) and Isaiah Sexton (190) each finished second.
In the Class B meet, Unatego/Unadilla Valley placed second overall.
Wyatt Meade (160), Yanni Drapaniotis (190) and Nolan Boyles (215) were all winners in their respective classes for U/UV. Abdul-Jamil Zaggout (131) and Abdeen Zaggout (152) were second and Ahmet Zaggout (138) and Zack Sousa (170) both placed third.
Walton/Delhi finished second overall in Class B. Linkin Bacus (101) and Jaxon Backus (170) were both winners in their classes, while Justin Somers (138) and Tristan Haywood (145) finished second and Aiden Branigan (116), Kohl Muller (124) and Gus Miller (285) were each third-place finishers.
For Sidney, Caden Higley was the winner at 108 and Dylan Webb placed second at 101.
