CUMBERLAND — Emmitt Lipscomb homered and Caden Frazee tossed a gem, as Northern defeated Riverside Sports, 8-2, in Game 1 of a three-game senior rec league playoff series on Tuesday at Washington Middle.
Lipscomb’s big fly was a solo shot in the fifth inning as part of a two-RBI day. Eliott Myers-Shirer was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Hunter Beitzel had multiple hits for Northern (12-3).
Frazee allowed two runs on five hits in six innings, striking out nine and walking four. Beitzel tossed a scoreless seventh.
Carson Durst took the loss for Riverside (7-6). He allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out seven and walking two in six frames.
Durst and Korbin McKenzie doubled to lead the offense.
Riverside will look to force a decisive game in Game 2 of the series on Wednesday at Grantsville Park at 7 p.m.
Junior Division
Bedford 6, Frankfort 1
POTOMAC PARK — Bedford scored six unanswered runs after the first inning to best Frankfort in a Hot Stove Junior Division game on Tuesday at Memorial Field.
Blake Cragan paced Bedford (9-1) going 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs. Jude Chamberlein also doubled, and Dillon and Blake Cragan scored twice each.
Blake Cragan earned the victory on the mound, surrendering an unearned run on one hit in five innings. He struck out seven and walked six.
Chamberlein recorded a six-out save, giving up just one hit and fanning five.
Drew Myers took the loss for Frankfort.
Frankfort faced Flintstone on Wednesday night and takes on Cresaptown on Friday at Memorial Field at 6 p.m.
Bedford battles Flintstone at Holler Field on Thursday at 6 p.m.
