ACCIDENT — No. 1 Northern scored six runs in the second inning, leading to an 11-1 five-inning win over East Hardy on Friday.
Luke Ross doubled and Wally Brands singled before a two-run error and a sacrifice fly put the Huskies (17-1) in front 6-1.
Brands led Northern with two hits and an RBI while Nick Riley and Wyatt Hull each stole a pair of bases.
Robert Deatelhauser allowed one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts across five innings for the Huskies.
Garrett VanMeter doubled in the first for the lone East Hardy (6-14) run.
No. 3 Frankfort 9 Bridgeport 2
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — In a matchup of two top-five teams in the WVMetroNews West Virginia Class AAA poll, Frankfort emerged victorious against Bridgeport on Friday.
Jaxon Hare went six innings for the Falcons (17-6), allowing two runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Blake Jacobs and Jacob Nething each recorded three hits for Frankfort.
Jacobs sent a solo shot to left to lead off the bottom of the second.
The Falcons head to Jefferson on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Petersburg 11 Southern 0
OAKLAND — Payton Metheny’s five-inning gem on the mound led Petersburg over Southern on Friday.
Metheny only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six for the Vikings (14-5).
Peyton Tingler hit a three-run home run in the first inning that put Petersburg in front 3-0.
Caden Arbaugh led the Vikings with three hits including a double.
Ryan Bird’s leadoff double in the second was the only hit for the Rams (8-8).
Jared Haskiell was charged with three earned runs off four hits and a walk with three strikeouts for Southern.
The Rams close the regular season at Keyser (5-16-1) on Monday at 7 p.m.
Petersburg heads to Elkins on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Hampshire 7 16 Lewis County 6 5
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Hampshire came back to take a thrilling Game 1 over Lewis County on Saturday, and the Trojans rolled in Game 2 for the twinbill sweep.
The Trojans (9-13) took the lead for good in the opener on an RBI double by Ethan VanMeter with two outs in the sixth inning. Two Lewis County runners got on in the seventh, but Channing Wilt got the final two outs.
VanMeter doubled twice and Landon Whitacre hit a two-bagger. Wilt was the winning pitcher.
In Game 2, Wilt had three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs in the five-inning rout. Cannon Mowery, Brent Evans, Luke Poore and Brayden Hott all had multiple hits.
Mark Richman earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits with eight Ks to two walks.
Hampshire is at Washington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Keyser wins, ties
KEYSER, W.Va. — Keyser defeated Philip Barbour, 7-3, and its game with Preston was called at 3-3 due to inclement weather on Saturday.
Lucas Williamson tossed a complete game for a win against Philip Barbour, and Landon Tysinger doubled and scored twice to lead to Tornado offense.
Williamson and Lucas Davy had two RBIs each, and Davy, Williamson and Cole Holland also doubled.
Williamson allowed three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.
Landyn Carpenter had two hits for Philip Barbour, which fell to 17-3 with the defeat.
Keyser (5-16-1) trailed Preston, 7-3, in the bottom of the seventh, but the game was reverted to the 3-3 score at the beginning of the inning.
Hunter Harr had two base hits for Keyser, and Tysinger pitched all six complete innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in a no-decision.
Keyser hosts Southern on Monday at 7 p.m.
Clear Spring 9 Mountain Ridge 3
CLEAR SPRING — Clear Spring out-hit Mountain Ridge 12-3, leading to a win on Friday.
The Blazers had three players record two hits each while six others had one.
Eli Sibley was one of three Miners (5-12) with a hit and led the team with two RBIs.
Mountain Ridge hosts No. 5 Fort Hill (10-7) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
East Fairmont 7 Keyser 4
KEYSER, W.Va. — Tied at 4 in the top of the seventh, East Fairmont loaded the bases and scored three runs to defeat Keyser on Friday.
Carter McKnight cleared the bases on a double before Will Hawkins doubled on the next at-bat.
The Bees out-hit the Golden Tornado (5-16-1) by a 13-7 margin led by Brody Bledsoe’s four.
Layton Valentine was one out shy of a complete game for Keyser.
He allowed six earned runs off 13 hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Tygarts Valley 6 20 Moorefield 2 9
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Tygarts Valley swept Friday’s doubleheader over Moorefield, winning by four in the opener and cruising in the finale.
In the first game, the Yellow Jackets (4-18) committed six errors while combining for two hits.
Trevor Baldwin recorded both hits for Moorefield and drove in both runs.
Baldwin was an out shy of a complete game, allowing two earned runs on six hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.
Game two produced plenty of offense as the teams combined for 29 runs off 34 hits.
Blake Snyder led the Jackets going 3 for 4 while Oliver Crites, Cyrus Kump and Caleb Flinn each recorded two hits.
Jacob Wamsley hit two home runs for Tygarts Valley in the finale.
He hit a two-run shot in the sixth and a two-run inside-the-park home run in the first.
The Yellow Jackets host Berkeley Springs on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
